Hmm, Nikki said it's time for an update.  So, here's an update!

Things in DC are going well.  I've got a relatively good job that lets me pay my bills, rent, gives me insurance, and some spending money at the end of each month.  Can't ask for more than that!  I'm still thinking about what I'd like to pursue here... I want to get my master's degree, and ideally I'd like to get it in History... but it's a tough field to get into, and there's not much you can do with it.  Do I want to study political science?  International affairs/studies? Law?  There are so many things I could do around here... it's just a matter of deciding what to do with it.  Any ideas? :)

This city is fantastic.  We went down to the Tidal Basin the other day to view the Cherry Blossoms... it was pretty awesome.  Tourist season is starting... and it's different to look at the city through the eyes of someone who's lived here, and not just visited.  The tourists are so timid :)  I'm sure it's only going to get worse, so if I want to see some stuff down in DC, I better go now, before it gets too bloody hot to move, let alone walk everywhere.  It's kind of cool, though, to hop on the Metro and go to Georgetown for a movie (as long as you're willing to walk, because the Georgetown residents were too snobby to allow a metro stop in the middle of the area... so you have to walk or drive, and I don't suggest driving).  We've gone out into the National Parks around here... the Great Falls are pretty fantastic.  And then, of course, there's all the historical sites that amaze me, each and every time I see them.  How many people can say they went to the Capitol and saw President Ford's casket lying in state?  I can :)  I had to file a report with all of my family... I'm like the family representative for everything cool out here!

The one thing that's a little hard is that it's difficult to make friends when you're not in school.  I've met a few people that I joke and chat with, but I still don't really have anyone I can call up and say, "Hey, let's go out for a beer tonight."  It's only been 6 months, so I'm still optimistic.  If I don't start making friends soon, I'm going to start forcing my friends to relocate here ;)

Hmm, I've cut my hair again, I've lost about 20 lb., and I'm making myself walk as often as possible.  Need to check the mail?  Walk the three flights of stairs up and down rather than waiting for the elevator.  Need to go down into DC?  Walk to the Metro instead of trying to drive down there and find a parking spot.  It's tough sometimes, but I'm enjoying learning the metro and the city in general.  I'll be a regular tour guide when everyone decides to start visiting me out here :)

The Sound of Music (40th Anniversary Edition)

Hello everyone!  It's been almost a month since I posted, and a lot has happened, so I thought I'd post! The biggest thing that's happened was my time up in Lamoni.  It was awesome to go to Lamoni, I've missed it :)  Unfortunately, I didn't get to see a lot of people, but it was awesome to see Nikki, Jama, and Heather!  I got to show off and be professional with my job and all my fun artifacts I had to present.  Nikki was a great Vanna too :)  I should be heading back to Lamoni at least one more time before graduation.  And maybe I'll actually get to see more people while I'm there.

I've been on a movie-buying kick recently.  In the last three weeks, I've bought Rent, Pride and Prejudice, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and Sound of Music.  I think I'm done for awhile, but it's been fun :)  I take Jonathan's laptop home with me each week, so I watch movies on it, and it's pretty nice.  It usually means that I'm singing songs the next day at work... tomorrow is going to be interesting.  "Raindrops on roses, and whiskers on kittens..."

Wedding plans are progressing... slowly, but surely.

Jonathan is on Spring Break starting next Friday, and I think we're going to take a day trip to Fulton, MO.  There's a museum there that commemorates Winston Churchill, who I adore.  Poor Jonathan has to put up with history-crazy me!  Wish him luck :)

Hmmm...not much going on at the moment.  I've had lunch with old friends (), seen other friends for crazy late night get-togethers, and of course, had dinner with my girls.  Wedding plans are so retardedly slow, I feel like such a slackass.

Work at the Arabia is wonderful, I love it so much!  I've just recently moved up from metal to leather, so my pet project right now is a lady's shoe, size 4.  Ridiculously hard to sew, but my sewing skills are rapidly increasing!

So...uh...we might go to Disneyworld for our honeymoon. *shrug*  That's about it.

Wow, I really am awful about updating here :)

Life at the Arabia is good.  I've been working on artifacts that I can't possibly screw up, i.e. metals.  So far I've worked on 3 door hinges, 2 boat bolts, and a stack of graduated weights for a balance scale.  It's a bit tedious, but it's fun to talk to the patrons as they walk by the lab, and tell them all about my job and what my current project is :)  I was able to start working on leather artifacts as well.  See, the cotton stitching in all the leather and textiles disintegrated, so it all has to be resown as part of the preservation.  So guess who gets to sew it?  That's right, the lab techs.  Right now we're working on a harness for a team of horses, and so I got to help sew that...it's a bitch.  There's three layers of leather to sew through, and it's murder on your hands.  It went well for awhile, until the leather stopped lining up, and I got angry with it...so I went back to the metal items before I caused the harness or myself bodily harm :)

And now that I've let my history nerd take over, let's talk about something else!  Jonathan's home for Winter Term, so we're getting some of the plans done for the wedding.  We've got a few plans that we really like, including some issues with the words used in a lot of weddings.  We're not going to let the minister talk about marriage being an institution for man and woman, because we think that's wrong, so we'll come up with alternative wording.  And Jonathan doesn't want the minister to talk about Jesus being the third part of our marriage, because he'll giggle, because he's immature like that :)  Hmmm...I have to figure out flowers still, and we have to figure out some other things, but we're actually doing pretty good on wedding plans right now, surprisingly.

So...I'm going to be in Lamoni in early February, I think.  Who do I need to visit while I'm there? :)

Scratch that "lab after New Years" thing.  I am the newest Lab Technician at the Steamboat Arabia.  WHEE! :)  So exciting!  Tomorrow is my first day in the lab, so if anyone decides to travel to the museum tomorrow, I'm in the lab in the afternoon ;)

I don't have much else to say, but I've got a ton of reading to do to learn about preservation, and then I get thrown to wolves tomorrow, aka the tourists.  We'll see how well I fair against them all afternoon :)
